Forest Creek Golf Performance Program
At Forest Creek Chiropractic, we don’t guess, we test. What that means is we put you through specific Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) tests designed to highlight areas of weakness and inflexibility.
What is TPI?
The TPI, or Titleist Performance Institute, was founded in 2003 to study how a golf swing is influenced by the human body. TPI has built their business on thefollowing principle:
“There is no one way to swing a golf club, rather there is one efficient way for every golfer to swing a club, and that is dictated by what the golfer can physically do.”
- Increase your awareness of your body position during the golf swing
- Identifies your physical limitations that impacts your golf swing
- Reduce the risk of injury by correcting inefficiency in your swing
Our Process
Step 1: Complete Physical, Medical, and Sports History
We start by establishing a complete history of your past and present physical condition, medical issues, and sports related injuries. By knowing your history, we are able to set reasonable goals and expectations for improving your game.
Step 2: The TPI Physical Assessment
We establish your "Golf-Fitness Handicap" through a physical assessment of golf-specific flexibility, strength, balance, power, and upper/lower body separation coordination. This assessment is based on Titleist Performance Institute’s physical assessment, which is performed on and developed from PGA and LPGA players.
Step 3: K-VEST Swing Efficiency Assessment
Using 3D motion capture, we determine your kinematic swing sequence (the sequence of movements of your lower body, upper body, and club in downswing transition), swing timing, rotational velocities/speed, and x-factor measurements (the separation difference of your lower body from your upper body at top of backswing).
Step 4: Custom TPI Exercise Program
We'll create a personalized exercise program to address your strength, mobility or flexibility based on your TPI Physical Assessment results. This program can be performed at home and/or at the gym. We send the program via email with 48 hours of your assessment.
How Does It Work?
We use K-COACH & The K-VEST to measure five specific components of your golf swing in order to understand critical aspects of your movements.
- Alignment of the hips, shoulders, and arms in relation to a target line.
- Postural alignments of the upper body, including flexion/extension of the hips and right and left lateral bending of the spine.
- Rotation of the arms, shoulder and hips in the backswing/downswing.
- Kinetic link: the velocities of the hips, shoulders, and arms during the backswing/downswing.
- Timing and sequence relation of the hips, shoulders, and arms during the backswing and downswing.
How Does it Help my Game?
Good question. TPI’s golf fitness model is about fitting your body into your golf game. Do you ever have pain or feel exhausted after golfing? It’s probably because you’re trying to force your body to do things it can’t do…yet.
With TPI, a 20-minute physical screening will identify your physical limitations. These physical limitations are some of the reasons you are early extending, hanging back, or swaying and sliding.
By identifying these limitations and providing some easy exercises to eliminate these limitations, correction of the golf swing is now possible. In many cases, it’s not your swing, it’s your body! Fix your body, and you can fix your swing!
